A birthday, hidden in plain digits
Somewhere behind eight blank tiles is a real birthday - day, month, and year, written as DD/MM/YYYY. Your job is to find it before your guesses run out.
Every guess earns two kinds of feedback: a colour on each digit, and a compass reading on the date as a whole. Put them together and the search narrows fast.

How a round works
Start a round
A secret birthday between 01/01/1922 and 31/12/2022 is chosen the moment you load the page. You have 8 attempts to find it.
Type an 8-digit date
Use the on-screen pad or your keyboard to enter DD/MM/YYYY - for example 12/02/1998. The grid groups your digits into day, month and year for you.
Submit the guess
Press Enter or tap the button. Birthdayle checks that the date is real and inside range before it counts as a try.
Read the digit colours
Green means correct and in place, yellow means the digit belongs elsewhere in the date, grey means it isn't in the date at all.
Check the compass reading
Below the grid, a too-high or too-low reading tells you whether your guess falls chronologically after or before the answer.
Narrow it down
Combine both clues to sharpen the next guess, and repeat until you land on the exact date or run out of attempts.

What is Birthdayle?
A free browser puzzle, in the spirit of Wordle, where you try to guess a hidden birthday written as DD/MM/YYYY within 8 attempts. Colour clues and a too-high/too-low reading guide each guess.
What date format does Birthdayle use?
DD/MM/YYYY - day first, then month, then the full four-digit year. So 12/02/1998 means the 12th of February 1998.
What's the valid date range?
The hidden birthday always falls between 01/01/1922 and 31/12/2022, a full century of possible dates.
What's the difference between Daily and Unlimited mode?
Daily mode gives everyone the same secret birthday for the day, resetting at midnight. Unlimited mode - the default - generates a fresh random birthday every round, so you can play as often as you like.
What do the tile colours mean?
Green: correct digit, correct position. Yellow: the digit is in the birthday but in a different spot. Grey: the digit doesn't appear at all.
What does too high or too low mean?
It compares your guess to the secret birthday chronologically. Too high means your date is later than the answer, too low means earlier, equal means you've found it.
What is Hard Mode?
With Hard Mode on, every confirmed clue must be honoured later: green digits stay put, and yellow digits have to reappear somewhere in your next guess.
